Morals, Media and West-Islamic Dialogue
Just how common are common values of the Common Word?
6.00pm, Tuesday 31st Mar 2009

An interactive Panel Discussion with distinguished members of the C-1 World Dialogue Executive Committee  will take a critical look at the concept of common values and the challenges to be faced in building better relations. If religion and culture provide unique sources of moral insight how do we ground common values? Can they hold under the strain of current tensions and divides? What practical steps are needed? How does the media engage with these issues and what is the impact? Must the media focus always be on the divisive and the negative? Is the media unfairly blamed for the failures in leadership of others ?  How do Western and Muslim societies typically differ in regard to these questions?

Speakers:

Dr. Mustafa Ceric, Grand Mufti of Bosnia

Theodore Cardinal McCarrick, Archbishop of Washington DC.  2001-2006

Roland Schatz, President of Media Tenor  (the specialist company in international media-content analysis)

Nakhla El Hage, Editor in Chief of Al Arabiya Television

The Director General of the C-1 World Dialogue, Canon Alistair Macdonald-Radcliff, will moderate the discussion and take questions from the audience.
Please register for the event above.
